The Villard, Cuilleron and Gaillard trio began the Vins de Vienne adventure at the end of the 1990s. Initially, it was a question of reviving the superb forgotten terroirs of Seyssuel, one of the first vineyards in the Rhône: of the 16 hectares of vines, 11 were planted there between 1996 and 2001. Over the years, the range has expanded with the purchase of grapes. Today, the three friends produce four collections Les Vignes de Seyssuel, Les Lieux-Dits, L'Amphore d'Or, and L'Amphore d'Argent.

This top-class Chateauneuf du Pape is a classic Rhone blend with 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre. The grapes come from soils with old alluvial deposits, red clays, and laminated pebbles. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and concrete vats.

The wine shows a deep blood-red color and an exuberant nose with aromas of ripe red fruit (especially raspberries and cherries) well concentrated. In the mouth, the fruity aromas come back strongly with nice acidity and an interesting tannic backbone. Overall the wine is juicy and elegant, with a full body and good concentration. On the finish, there are notes of spices and smoke. It’s a classic pairing with roast lamb or veal kidneys, but it also works well with flavorful cheeses.
