Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Macon Chardonnay Clos Crochette 2017

Known for their excellent Meursault wines made at Domaine des Comtes Lafon, in 1999 the Lafon family purchased a little-known domaine in the Maconnais which they named Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon. Today the estate has around 14 hectares of estate vines in prime locations as well as vineyards in Viré-Clessé which they lease from Château de Viré. All of their vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically following Dominique Lafon’s vision to produce the best raw ingredients possible for their delicious wines.

This superb single vineyard Macon is crafted from vines with an average age of 30 years which are usually the first to be harvested on the estate. As with their other wines, the must is fermented using wild yeasts and then aged in a combination of 500 litre barrels and large 45 hectolitre casks for 7-8 months.

Ripe peaches, pears and tropical fruit mingle on the nose while the first sip reveals a well-rounded texture, medium body and bright streak of acidity that adds poise and elegance. On the palate there are vibrant notes of pineapple, mango and apricots which linger on the long finish. A great wine to partner with a generous platter of cheeses or chicken and fish dishes served with a creamy sauce.
