Ideally drink now to 2023. Best served chilled, 6-11°C
Straw yellow with shades of bright chartreuse, this fresh and fruity wine opens with intense aromas of ripe stone fruit, zesty citrus and fresh mint. Well chilled, chalky notes of limestone and flint can be detected, but as it warms gently in the glass, a bouquet of springtime peach blossom and elderflower develops into ripening apricot and mandarin, rounded out by herbaceous white pepper and spearmint. On the palate, this cousin to Riesling is both juicy and surprisingly crisp, with good acidity and a lightly sweetened finish.
This delicate white wine pairs well with light appetizers and summer fare, shellfish and hard cheeses, as well as exotically spiced cuisine from Thailand or the Caribbean.
Kellerei Bozen, in the farthest most northern reaches of Italy, sits on land consisting of limestone alps, with both topographical and climatic extremes. Set in the Alto Adige region, the Kerner grape thrives in the light gravelly soils of the Isarco River Valley. The microclimate in the river valley is characterized by long hours of sunshine contrasted with cool evening temperatures, producing grapes that are fresh, fruity and aromatic. The crispness of the wine is attributed to carefully selected grapes that were gently pressed and then fermented in steel tanks. The gorgeous complexity of this white wine is mouth watering today, but with graceful acidity, it suggests fine aging, with expected enrichment of apricot jam and honey flavors. A true example of Kellerei Bozen’s philosophy: Making good wines is a craft: making great wines is an art. Pick several of these masterful bottles to enjoy for many summers!
