Jean Bouchard Pouilly-Fuisse 2021
Enjoy it now, or cellar for a few more years. No need to decant before serving.
The Jean Bouchard name has been stamped into the minds of Burgundy wine enjoyers for well over 100 years now. In 1955 the winery was acquired by Maison Albert Bichot, which served as a major catalyst for Jean Bouchard’s success. Today, it is still under the ownership of the Bichot family and sixth-generation winemaker Albéric Bichot and remains one of the most awarded wineries in the Côte-d'Or.
In Albert Bichot winery’s incredibly broad range of Burgundy wines, you can find this hidden masterpiece. It comes from the small appellation of Pouilly-Fuissé in Mâconnais, in Burgundy’s southern reaches. The locality is highly regarded for its crisp white wines, which often showcase wonderfully delicate flavours.
This Pouilly-Fuissé shows a refined nose, with shy notes of green apple, pear, white flowers and a hint of gunsmoke. It is a stunning pale yellow colour in the glass. The palate is dominated by minerality, gained from the stony, scree-scattered terroir of the appellation. However, you can also find floral notes, lemon, lime and subtle hints of sweetness that complement the round mouthfeel. Flavours of melon and honey appear on the finish. Consider pairing this wine with trout almondine (or any fish dish for that matter), or delicate vegetable dishes in a creamy sauce.
