White Blends
Jakoncic Carolina Bela 2017
Drink now through to 2026. Serve chilled.
This expressive white is primarily composed of Chardonnay along with smaller amounts of Ribolla and Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are grown on stunning terraced hillside vineyards where the sunny Mediterranean climate is moderated by cooling breezes which help retain freshness in the fruit. The grapes are harvested by hand and then vinified with a light touch in the winery. 20% of the Chardonnay is matured in oak barrels to add extra complexity and structure to the finished wine.
The nose opens with enchanting hints of ripe tropical fruit, coconut and caramel while the first sip offers a medium body and peach and apricot flavours balanced by ample freshness. The easy-going flavour profile makes this a great wine to sip as an aperitif or to enjoy alongside gastronomic treats like creamy cheeses, pan-fried fish, or roast chicken.
The Jakoncic family have been making wine here in Kozana in western Slovenia close to the border with Italy for generations. The winery was founded back in 1847 by Mihael and Carolina Jakončič who planted the first vineyards on the estate. Today the estate is run by Aljosa Jakoncic who is the current guardian of the family’s noble viticultural legacy.
