This rich and aromatic white delights the nose with hints of baked apples, pears and pineapple along with dried white flowers. The first sip reveals a lively personality with a full body, ripe green apple, peach and tropical fruit flavours, and a touch of salinity on the long finish. The bold character of this wine make it excellent to pair with seafood, spicy Asian dishes or flavoursome oily fish like smoked mackerel.

Made with five indigenous Portuguese grape varieties that are little known outside of the country, the Alfaiate Branco is one of the Herdade do Portocarro’s most exciting white wines. The grapes are sourced from the estate’s vineyards in Setúbal just to the south of Lisbon which sit on a south-facing hill just 60 metres from the Sado River.

Conditions here are ideal for making top quality wines thanks to the warm Mediterranean climate which is moderated by the nearby Sado River and the Atlantic Ocean. This allows Herdade do Portocarro to achieve a perfect balance between ripe fruit flavours and a refreshing acidity in their finished wines. The winery produces limited quantities of all of their wines and has been named Portugal’s top winery two years running by one of the nation’s most important wine magazines.
