Bordeaux Red Blends
Hedges Family Red Mountain Blend 2019
Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour.
Located in the heart of Washington State's Red Mountain AVA, Hedges Family Estate is an established family business considered among the most important in the area due to its pioneering role in the local wine industry.
The Hedges Family Red Mountain Blend is a classic Bordeaux blend of 43% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Syrah, 4% Cabernet Franc, 7% Malbec, and 3% Petit Verdot, with very small additions of grapes of Portuguese origin such as Souzao, la Touriga, and the Tinta Cao. Grapes from the Hedges, Bel 'Villa, Les Gosses Magdalena, and Jolet vineyards in the Red Mountain wine region are hand-picked and transported to the nearby winery. The final wine is aged for 21 months in new and used American (61%) and French (39%) oak barrels.
Produced from biodynamic agriculture, the wine shows a deep ruby red color. The nose reveals intense aromas of dark fruit like cassis, blackberry, and plum followed by herbs, tobacco, coffee, and hints of cloves. On the palate, it is full-bodied, very warm, round, dry, savory, and with perfectly balanced tannins. It also shows a long and smooth finish. It is ready to be enjoyed now, but can also age well. It works well with duck or goose, as well as pungent Pecorino cheese, and mushrooms.
