This Reserva is a meeting of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, from the world-famous region of Ribera del Duero. It has a powerful bouquet of black cherry, plum, raspberry, balsamic vinegar and thyme, supported by subtle, creamy notes gained from malolactic fermentation and hints of mint.
Hacienda Monasterio is the centre of a 167-hectare estate, situated between the two towns of Pesquera and Valbuena de Duero. It was founded in the 1990s, when the great Dane, Peter Sisseck, first arrived in the region. Two years later he was joined by local Carlos de la Fuentes, who adopted the role of Peter’s right-hand man and head wine-maker at Hacienda Monasterio.
A medley of black fruits envelop the tongue - blackberry, cassis and plum can all be detected, with perfectly integrated tannins and bountiful acidity. Look for undertones of liquorice, baking spice, tobacco smoke and minerality. The fruits spent 16 months ageing in Allier French oak barrels before release. It is an indulgent experience, and one of the most sought-after red wines in Ribera del Duero. It can be kept in the cellar for some time. Enjoy it alongside a succulent steak, wild game, or aged cheese.
