This Etna Rosso is crafted from very low-yielding Nerello Mascalese vines from the prized Arcuria single vineyard. The variety is Etna’s most famous black grape variety and is renowned for producing incredibly refined reds with plenty of freshness and ripe red fruit character. The grapes are grown organically and harvested by hand. Once they reach the winery they are vinified in traditional oak barrels using wild yeasts. The young wine is then matured in large oak casks for 24 months before bottling and release.
On the nose there are attractive hints of redcurrant, cherries and crushed raspberries while the first sip reveals a full body, firm tannins and well-defined structure which will respond well to further cellaring. This is an excellent wine to pair with tomato-based pasta dishes or hearty stews thanks to the balance between ripe fruit flavours and freshness.
Alberto Graci’s family have been making wine in Sicily for generations, but it was only in 2004 that he decided to leave behind a fledgling career in banking in Milan to take over the running of the family business. Today Graci is Vice President of the Consorzio covering the Etna DOC region and is recognised for producing some exceptional Etna wines.
