The Giovanni Rosso winery is a family business established in Serralunga for more than a century. The estate extends over 10 hectares of land distributed among some of the best Barolo crus, including Vigna Rionda, Cerretta, and Serra. In the 80s, Giovanni Rosso's entry into the company led to a major renewal with the restructuring of most of the vineyards with very modern layouts, aimed at producing only high-quality wines. Since 2001 the company has been managed by Giovanni's son, Davide.
The Nebbiolo grapes for this Barolo come from the Cerretta cru, located about 360 meters above sea level in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba. The vines were planted in 1984 and 2000 and have an east - southeast exposure. The first vintage dates back to 1994. The harvest is manual, the fermentation lasts an average of 28 days and the vinification takes place in concrete tanks. The wine is then aged for a period ranging from 18 to 36 months depending on the vintage, in French oak barrels from the Fontainebleau Forest.
Barolo Cerretta reveals an elegant and complex aromatic profile with hints of violet and dried rose, dark spices, small red fruits, and cherry. On the palate, the wine has a strong character with silky tannins and a solid body. The finish is long and recalls fruity and spicy notes. It is the perfect wine for truffles, game birds, or aged cheeses.
