Giovanni Almondo Roero Arneis Vigne Sparse 2016

This 100% Arneis wine is the perfect summer time wine: light, refreshing, and easy to drink, but with a touch of body to help it pair with food. Aromas of white peach and flowers lead to a deliciously quaffable palate that displays notes of bright citrus, pear, and a light minerality that brings it all together, along with a hint of creaminess that lends complexity to the wine.

Easily paired with lighter dishes incorporating the fruits of the sea, this wine would be fantastic with shellfish, fish tacos, seafood pasta dishes, or light seafood salads.

Giovanni Almondo’s Roero estate, now run by his son Domenico, is planted to Arneis, Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Brachetto, with Arneis the top production wine. While the estate has been around for many generations, wine production began rather recently, as Domenico returned from Agriculture Science school in the early 1980’s. Roero as a region is perfect for Arneis, giving wines made from grapes grown in the region a vibrancy and minerality not seen in many versions of the wine made elsewhere. The Roero’s proximity to the mountains North of the Piemonte region, and its dry, sandy soils, give the wines their signature minerality, with vines that have to dig deep to reach their water sources.
