Located in Motovun, in the Croatian side of the Istrian peninsula, the Fakin winery is a family business founded in 2010 that produces native grapes grown on the 30 hectares of the estate. The vineyards enjoy extremely favorable conditions, thanks to a microclimate influenced by the hilly conformation and the proximity of the sea. The resulting wines are characterized by great freshness and good minerality and express the characteristics of this splendid region on the Mediterranean.
Malvazija is one of the historical white grape varieties of the area and the second most cultivated variety in Croatia. The grapes are harvested by hand from vineyards with an average age of about 30 years. The maceration is short and lasts from 3 to 6 hours and the finished wine is aged in steel for 6 months.
Malvazija Fakin is a very fragrant wine. On the nose, it reveals delicious aromas of peach, pear, white flowers, and herbs. On the palate it is a lively and juicy wine, fresh and dry. The fruit flavors are accompanied by a refreshing acidity and a very pleasant mineral backbone that gives balance and complexity. The body is medium and round and the finish calls again for juicy fruity notes. Try it with oysters or some not-too-spicy dishes of Asian cuisine.
