Founded in 1919 by Arthur Trapet, the Domaine Trapet is located in Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate is one of the largest in Burgundy and has 15 hectares distributed in the Côte de Nuits with vineyards in very prestigious appellations, such as Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin, and Latricières-Chambertin. The company is run today by Jean Trapet with his wife Andrée Trapet (née Grayer and heiress to a Riquewihr estate in Alsace) and their children. The vineyards have been managed in a biodynamic way since 1995.
The Pinot Noir grapes come from a parcel of about 0.75 ha located on a gentle slope facing east and composed of Neolithic limestone. The vineyard was planted in two phases in 1937 and 1946.
The Domaine Trapet Latricieres Chambertin Grand Cru is a wine with an intense ruby color. The nose offers a deep and complex aromatic profile with scents of wild berries and notes of licorice and wood. On the palate, the wine is expressive and elegant with very fine tannins and lively freshness. There are spicy notes and a good concentration of red fruit. The finish is long and refined. It is an exceptionally good wine that works very well with lamb, roast pigeon, and other game birds.
