Located in the Beaujolais wine region, Domaine Bonnet Cotton is a small winery with about 12 hectares of vineyards managed by Pierre Cotton and Marine Bonnet. The company was actually founded in 1856 by Joseph Sanvers and then taken over by Pierre's parents in 1976. Today Pierre and Marine, manage the vineyards organically and produce high-quality local wines in their cellar in Odenas.
The Gamay grapes come from a plot of about 1.5 hectares called Les Mines located in Brouilly on pink granite soils. The vines are about 65 years old and produce wines of great concentration. After manual harvesting, carbonic maceration, and fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the finished wine ages in barrels for about 8 months. It is then bottled without filtration or clarification.
Brouilly Les Mines is a fresh and lively wine with a fruity and delicate character. Its aromatic profile reveals lively notes of red fruits, such as raspberry, strawberry, and cherry, followed by violets, earthy notes, and some mineral hints. On the palate, it has a medium body and a good concentration of fruit. It is fresh and balanced with a well-integrated acidity and delicate tannins. The finish is long and recalls gently spicy hints. Try it with pasta with spicy tomato sauce or a cheeseburger.
