To name his winery located in the south of France, winemaker Dave Phinney was inspired by the French structural principle; indeed, administratively the "Great Nation" is divided into 101 departments. And Dave Phinney's cellar is, as its name suggests, in department 66. This department of Pyrénées-Orientales is a sun-drenched region of southern France, as wild as it is romantic, with miles of sandy beaches, the peaks of the Pyrenees, many Romanesque cultural monuments and an ocean of vineyards in the heart of breathtaking nature.
The Pharaon is one of Dave Phinney's prestigious wines from the Maury wine region in southern France. Made of 55% Syrah and 45% Grenache, this monumental red wine reveals perfect harmony between the fruity fullness of Dave Phinney's wines and the typical minerality of southern France.
The nose offers provocative woody aromas of sweet oak, dark chocolate liqueur, Tahitian vanilla, sage and plum. On the palate, the fruity flavors of rhubarb, savory red fruits and boysenberries are evident and blend harmoniously with the mineral notes. The tannins are firm but pleasant and ready to age. Finishing with fiery acidity, this red wine elegantly charms the palate indefinitely. Enjoy it with a beef bourguignon or with a venison stew.
