Located in the pretty village of Chavignol, in the heart of the Sancerre region, the Delaporte winery is a family business that has been handed down from father to son for centuries. Since 2010 Matthieu, Vincent Delaporte's grandson, has taken the lead of the company, focusing on how to improve production with a more organic approach in the vineyards.
The Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from 40 years old vines, planted on 100% clay-limestone soil (Kimmeridgian marls and white lands). This specific terroir produces wines with remarkable aging potential and guarantees a slow ripening of the grapes which allows for a later harvest.
The grapes are cultivated traditionally to respect the environment as much as possible. They are manually harvested, sorted, and destemmed. After Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation the wine is aged in oak barrels for 1 to 5 years and then bottled.
The wine shows a beautiful ruby color with dark cherry reflections. On the nose, it is intense, dominated by red fruit (especially cherry and raspberry), and roasted notes of coffee. On the palate, it is clean and lean, round and smooth with silky tannins. This beautiful Sancerre Rouge has consistency and chewiness. It ends with notes of maturity (caramel, stewed fruit). It’s perfect with charcuterie, pork tenderloin, or veal liver.
