Grace Madeline is a top-class white blend, made from 76% Sauvignon Blanc and 24% Semillon. The nose is packed with tropical aromas of pineapple and guava. These leading notes are supported by sharp hints of citrus fruit, green apple skin and minerality. The grapes were sourced from estate-owned vines, planted as far back as 1976.
The Cullen Wine Estate has been a part of the Margaret River landscape since the 1960s when it was founded by Kevin and Diana Cullen. It is one of Western Australia’s stalwart wineries, producing a wide range of terroir-driven wines from its headquarters in the village of Wilyabrup. Wilyabrup is considered to be part of Margaret River’s “Goldilocks zone”, where fertile red ochre clay lurks under the arid topsoil.
Named for founder Diana’s mother, Grace Madeline is a light golden wine, with greenish tinges. It bursts with notes of citrus rind and ripe tropical fruit. It has the potential to age for a long time in the bottle. Refreshing levels of acidity propel the mineral-rich palate into a long finish. It’s among the very best white wines that Western Australia has to offer, and can be enjoyed by serious collectors or weekend wine tasters. Consider pairing it with tender chicken, red snapper, or risotto alla Milanese.
