Based in the former home of the first Duke of Burgundy, Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi is one of the region's historic estates and most prestigious wineries. The vineyards, which span over 81 hectares spread across the Côte d'Or and Côte Chalonnaise, are worked with full respect for nature and biodiversity, and in fact, over the past 20 years, the company has implemented its sustainable cultivation practices, receiving the "High Environmental Value" certification in 2015.
The Pinot Noir grapes are harvested from the Les Puillets cru, a vineyard over fifty years old of about 6 hectares located in one of the highest cru plots of the Mercurey appellation, on hills exposed to the south-southwest, characterized by shallow soil of hard limestone with flint. After vinification, the wine rests in oak barrels (30% new) for about a year and a half.
The wine reveals a bright ruby color and a generous aromatic profile with notes of red fruits such as cherry and currant, some hints of kirsch, licorice, and spices. On the palate, it is round and elegant, with a fruity character and some earthy notes. It has a well-defined acidity and velvety tannins. The finish is long and slightly spicy. It is an easy-to-drink Burgundy wine, with good aging potential and pairs perfectly with stuffed peppers, mushroom risotto, or brie and mushroom crostini.
