Located in the heart of the fabulous terroir of Margaux, in the Medoc, Château Durfort Vivens is a 2nd Grand Cru Classé. The estate extends over 55 hectares of vineyards grown biodynamically and located in the municipalities of Margaux, Cantenac, and Soussans. Today the winery, which has a very long historical tradition, is owned by Gonzague Lurton who inherited it from his father in 1992.
The wine is a classic blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of Merlot. The grapes are harvested manually from vineyards planted on deep, sparse gravel ridges that can benefit from an oceanic climate. Fermentation occurs separately by plot and the finished wine is aged for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels.
Chateau Durfort-Vivens is a wine with a dense and deep color with dark red tones. On the nose, it reveals a fruity and intense aromatic profile with notes of blackberry, blueberry, and forest berries and hints of undergrowth and spices. On the palate, it is energetic and elegant with a medium body, balanced acidity, and firm, well-integrated tannins. The finish is persistent and recalls a light savory note. The ideal food pairing is with beef filet.
