Founded in the 14th century by Pierre de Lhomme who planted the first vines there in 1552, Château Giscours is one of the most important estates in the Margaux appellation, located in the Haut-Médoc north of the city of Bordeaux. After a period of financial and family succession problems, the estate was taken over in 1995 by Eric Albada-Jelgersma, a Dutch businessman. Today the vineyard covers 80 hectares planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon and the vines benefit from particularly favorable conditions in terms of exposure and drainage and from gravelly soil on a sand and gravel base.
This elegant wine from Haut-Médoc is a Bordeaux blend with a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon. The harvest is manual and the fermentation takes place in thermoregulated cement tanks. The finished wine is aged for one year in French oak barriques.
Chateau Giscours has a deep red color with crimson hues and an intense aromatic profile with notes of red fruits and light woody hints. On the palate, it has a good body and firm but well-integrated tannins. There is a good concentration of fruit and a well-balanced acidity. The finish is long and persistent. It is a wine that goes very well with red meat and can remain in the cellar for several years and evolve splendidly.
