This bold Morgon opens with captivating hints of red cherries, cassis and dried herbs which gain depth and complexity on the palate. In the mouth there is a fine structure and a striking freshness which helps to balance the ripe red fruit character. The rich fruit and refined structure make this wine an excellent partner for juicy duck dishes and it also has the power to stand up to a hearty coq au vin or the classic steak frites.
Chateau de Grand Pre has been in the capable hands of the Zordan family for three generations and is currently run by Claude and Christine along with their son, Romain. Since 2009 the estate has been entirely converted to organic viticulture and the family pursue an artisanal, hand-made philosophy in every aspect of their winemaking practices.
Their powerful Morgon wine is sourced from the family’s vineyards which have an average age of over 40 years and are planted on schist soils. The family harvest the grapes by hand and perform a careful sorting in the winery to make sure only the best grapes are used. The grapes then undergo semi-carbonic maceration for 10 to 15 days before being fermented with wild yeasts. The resulting wine is then aged in oak barrels for up to 9 months.
