Founded in 1991, the Casa Castillo estate covers 450 hectares located on the slopes of the Sierra del Molar, of which 170 are planted with vineyards and the rest with almond and olive trees. The company, owned by the Vicente family, is today led by José María Vicente. The most common variety in the estate's vineyards is Monastrell, followed by Garnacha and Syrah.
Casa Castillo's El Molar wine is produced solely with Garnacha grapes, harvested from vineyards located on the slopes of the Sierra del Molar planted with vines aged between 13 and 16 years. Here the soil is sandy with the presence of gravel on the surface and the climate is Mediterranean. The grapes are harvested manually and after fermentation, the finished wine is aged for 14 months in a mix of 500 and 5000 liter barrels.
The wine has a bright color with cherry tones. The nose reveals a fresh and pleasant aromatic profile with notes of red fruit and blackberries, spicy and balsamic hints. On the palate, it is fresh and harmonious with fine tannins and a well-balanced acidity. The finish is long and pleasant and recalls fruity scents. It makes a perfect pair with eggplant Parmigiana.
