A deep ruby hue and voluptuous aromas of dark cherries, chocolate, and black licorice delight the senses, while the palate offers delicious flavours of crushed berries, raisins, anise and hints of toasty oak. In the mouth the wine is incredibly smooth with plenty of gentle tannins and a firm structure which make it an ideal partner for barbecued meat, hearty pasta sauces or beef stews.
This is one of the latest offerings from the famous winemaking family Wagner of the Caymus and Belle Glos fame. The opulent red blend with Petit Syrah, Zinfandel, Petite Verdot grapes grown within the boundaries of the historic Carne Humana ranch which once covered an incredible 17,962 acres of land in the Napa Valley from Rutherford to Calistoga long before California even became a state. Here the warm climate ensures that red grape varieties blossom into rich, concentrated wines that seduce with their powerful flavours and full bodied personality.
Following the arrival of the grapes at the vineyard the winery insists on co-fermenting the varieties together to ensure the different characteristics of each are fully integrated in the final wine. After an extended maceration lasting for 60 days, the wine is then aged in oak barrels for 18 months to add hints of toast and sweet spices and to ensure the final wine is perfectly balanced.
