Primitivo
Cannito Drumon 2013
Bio wine
Excellent to drink now through 2023. A brief decanting of 30 minutes or less is highly recommended.
The grapes are organically grown on a protected territory that preserves the indigenous flora and fauna. “Drúmon” is Greek for oak tree and it is the symbol of the territory and the “National Park of High Murgia” in the D.O.C. of Gioia del Colle, where the origins of Primitivo cultivation began.
This wine’s high alcohol content (15.5%) is telltale of the varietal’s high sugar content. One look at the delight poured into your glass, and you will find magnificent garnet hues floating in a sea of deep ruby red. Red berry compote, intense cherry and blackberry will assault your nasal passages until just the slightest hint of licorice and violet floral tones remain.
Take the first sip and you will be greeted with deep complexity intermingled with a velvety soft mouth feel. The Primitivo’s fruity freshness brings a playful acidity to the barrage of jammy red berries and roasted black fruit elegantly laced with licorice and cracked black pepper.
Serve this wine with hearty pasta dishes, rabbit, grilled red meat, large game – stewed or roasted, and of course dark chocolate and fresh berries. A slight chill of 18°C - 22°C is recommended for optimal enjoyment.
The red, iron-rich limestone soils make Primitivo grapes from Gioia del Colle “supremely different,” retaining their acidity and jammy dark red fruit essences and high sugar content despite the elevation and lack of rainfall in the late summer months.
