Canalicchio di Sopra was founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and today the estate is cared for by his three grandchildren, Simonetta, Marco and Francesco , who have inherited his love for the vine. The family works a total of 19 hectares of vines of which 16 hectares are within the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino appellation. These vines are split between two areas; 6 hectares of Sangiovese vines are planted on rocky schist soils in Gode di Montosoli while a further 10 hectares are planted on clay soils in Canalicchio.
This combination of different Brunello terroirs helps to create a rich, multidimensional wine which combines bright red fruit with hints of dried Mediterranean herbs, leather, and baked earth. The family ages this wine in 2500 and 5000 litre Slavonian oak casks for 36 months to ensure all of the flavours are fully-integrated and there’s a silky smooth texture from the first sip.
On the palate there is a medium body, elegant tannins, and vibrant streak of acidity which will help this wine to age and evolve gracefully in the cellar over the next decade. For those who don’t have the patience to wait that long, this wine is also ideal to enjoy now alongside a classic Italian dish like fresh pasta served with a rich ragu or aubergine parmigiana.

overall i had a positive experience, they have a wide range of wines, some which are hard to find anywhere else - the main reason i still buy from them, plus the discounts are fair and often, but... their codes for the first offer only works at the first offer, which if fine, but then why would you send me the voucher in each package i order, why spam me on the email and every time i log in on the website? this is really bothering me... then their rewards points system is useless, first of all because you only get peanuts even after spending €250 on an order, but even those peanuts will expire if you won't order again soon, which is unfair, to say the least... and lastly, if you get a corked wine, a wine with any deffect or a wine that leaked (my last order contained a bottle of $100 Caymus Cabernet with a leaking cork, which made the wine tasted cooked and flat), they have no procedure put in place for you to replace or return the wine or to get a refund or replacement - none, which is a big no no no for any wine collector... so all in all i give it 3 stars for now
