Burrowing Owl’s Pinot Noir is a vibrant, light-bodied red wine, with a generous bouquet of raspberry, Montmorency cherry, baking spice and grated nutmeg. The grapes were harvested from estate-owned vineyards in the Oliver sub-region of British Columbia, Canada, which lies just across the border from Washington state.
Burrowing Owl Estate Winery was founded in 1997 by Jim Wyse, who, along with creating an incredible range of wines, takes a keen interest in biodiversity and the conservation of endangered species - in particular, British Columbia’s burrowing owl. In the vineyards, the winery employs a variety of minimal intervention techniques to curb the insect population, such as bat nurseries and bluebird boxes.
This wine is crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, aged for 9 months in French oak barrels before release. The palate exhibits crisp acidity with a silky mouthfeel. You can discover layers of juicy red fruits, raspberries, cherries and strawberries, along with hints of spice and dried herbs. The winery is located in a special terroir - a semi-arid shrub steppe known as “antelope brush”, where Pinot Noir truly thrives. Consider pairing this wine with roast chicken or turkey, light-textured meats cooked in red wine, or a variety of pungent cheeses.
