Profundo is a deep scarlet colour in the glass, with hints of purple. It opens up with rich scents of blackberry jam, wild strawberry, tobacco smoke, caramel, baking spice, and a background of toasted oak. It is an Argentinian red blend, composed of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.
Bressia is a family winery, founded in 2003 by Walter Bressia. It can be found in the mountainous region of Lujan de Cuyo in Mendoza, the winemaking capital of Argentina. In some locations, such as the plots in Agrelo and Uco Valley that Profundo was sourced from, the vineyards tower up to 900 metres above sea level. The Bressia family take a minimal approach to their winemaking, allowing the rugged nature of these terroirs to shine through.
On the palate, Profundo is both broad and fresh, with a sumptuous, exciting character. Notes of strawberry, cassis, and blackberry are encased in a layer of subtle oak, due to the 12 months of ageing in French and American oak barrels before release. You can discover further hints of leather, tobacco, cocoa, and dried herbs as the wine opens up. Consider pairing it with beef stew, mature cheese, or a tomato sauce.
