Bosquet des Papes has been a working winery since 1860 and has been owned by the Boiron family for six generations. In total they have 40 separate plots in Chateauneuf du Pape with an average vine age of 50 years. Their classic Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition is primarily composed of Grenache with a smaller proportion of Syrah, Mourvedre and other local varieties. Grapes are sourced from all over the appellation from stony, clay and sandy soils, capturing in the bottle the complexity of the terroir of Chateauneuf du Pape.
Once vinified the young wine is then aged in a combination of foudres, demi-muid barrels and neutral tanks for 12 months. This helps to add polish and additional character from the oak while preserving freshness and aromatics from the grapes themselves.
The result is a rich, intense Chateauneuf du Pape with great balance and poise thanks to the bright streak of acidity and ripe tannins on the palate. Succulent cassis, blackberry and plum defines the nose along with hints of leather, dried violets and cigar box spice. The medium body is complemented by a firm structure and long finish, making this a great wine to hold in the cellar for a few more years or drink now with charcuterie or red meat dishes.
A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!
