Located near the ancient village of Montepulciano, the Boscarelli winery was founded by Egidio Corradi with the purchase of two plots of land in the area in the 60s. Egidio's winemaking project was then carried forward by his daughter Paola and her husband who together established the Podere Boscarelli, building the cellar and expanding the vineyards. Today, Luca and Nicolò De Ferrari, third generation of the family, take care of the company and the 22 hectares of vineyards.
The wine is a blend with a majority of Prugnolo Gentile (the name given to the local clone of Sangiovese) with small additions of Colorino. The grapes are harvested manually from vineyards planted on alluvial and sandy limestone soils rich in silt and minerals. Fermentation takes place in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and the wine is finished in Slavonian or French oak barrels for 28-32 months before bottling.
The wine shows an intense color with ruby red tones tending towards garnet. Its aromatic profile is broad and complex with fruity notes of red berries and floral scents, followed by hints of tobacco and licorice. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, powerful and well-structured, with dense tannins. The finish is long and persistent. It is excellent with game, or mature cheeses, like aged Tuscan Pecorino.
