Located amongst the breathtaking mountain pastures of the Trentino Alto Adige region in northeastern Italy, the small Borgo Dei Posseri winery was founded by friends Maria Marangoni and Martin Mainenti. The estate’s vineyards are located on terraces on south-facing slopes where the vines enjoy maximum exposure to the sun. This setting is perfect for creating fresh, aromatic whites and fragrant, fruity reds.
The grapes used for the Rocol Merlot come from vines planted at 600 metres of altitude which helps to retain a vibrant freshness in the finished wine. The estate seek to work in harmony with nature and do not use herbicides on the property. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a 2 week fermentation and maceration on the skins. The wine is then matured in oak barrels for 13 months before bottling.
The result is a lively ruby red coloured wine which opens with enticing aromas of ripe cherries, baking spice and hints of Mediterranean herbs. The full, well-rounded texture, smooth tannins and succulent crushed berry flavours makes it a pleasure to drink either on its own or alongside a generous platter of cheeses and charcuterie.
