Elected Winemaker of the Year by Falstaff magazine in 2008, Bernhard Ott has been at the helm of the old family business since the 1990s. The estate, founded in 1889, extends over 40 hectares in the Wagram region, in Lower Austria, where the vineyards benefit from composed soils from loess, very deep and rich in mineral sediments and fossils. Following Bernhard's arrival, the company converted to a biodynamic regime.
The Gruner Veltliner grapes come from the Rosenberg vineyard, the most prestigious of the estate, located approximately 300 meters above sea level, on limestone soils with loess up to 20 meters deep. The vines, distributed amphitheatrically with southern exposure, are among the oldest on the estate and some of them are over 60 years old.
The wine shows a bright yellow color with greenish reflections. Its aromatic profile is pungent with notes of green apple and herbs, especially lemon balm, lime blossom, passion fruit, and citrus hints. On the palate, it is vibrant, fresh and linear. It is juicy and shows a very pleasant concentration of citrus fruits with a mineral streak and good complexity. The finish is persistent and recalls mineral and stone fruit notes. It is the ideal wine for dishes based on asparagus or starters based on fish and shellfish.
