Today Berlucchi is regarded as one of the pioneering producers of Franciacorta sparkling wines thanks to a serendipitous meeting between local landowner Guido Berlucchi and young winemaker Franco Ziliani back in the 1950s. The two quickly recognized the potential to create stunning sparkling wines on Guido’s family estate and they joined forces to create the very first Franciacorta wines in the early 1960s.
Berlucchi now enjoys a global reputation for top quality sparkling wines and is run by Franco’s children, Arturo, Paolo, and Cristina. Their Berlucchi 61 wine celebrates the very first vintage produced by Guido and Franco which paved the way for the many producers creating Franciacorta wines today. This sparkling wine is primarily composed of Chardonnay along with a drop of Pinot Nero with the grapes selected from top sites in Franciacorta.
Following the harvest the grapes are gently pressed and fermentation takes place in neutral steel vats. The cuvee is then assembled in the spring with a second fermentation taking place in the bottles. The wine is then left to age on the lees in the bottle for at least 24 months. This lengthy maturation process creates a rich, complex sparkling wine with delicate bubbles and hints of brioche, toasted almonds, and orchard fruits balanced by a bright streak of acidity.

overall i had a positive experience, they have a wide range of wines, some which are hard to find anywhere else - the main reason i still buy from them, plus the discounts are fair and often, but... their codes for the first offer only works at the first offer, which if fine, but then why would you send me the voucher in each package i order, why spam me on the email and every time i log in on the website? this is really bothering me... then their rewards points system is useless, first of all because you only get peanuts even after spending €250 on an order, but even those peanuts will expire if you won't order again soon, which is unfair, to say the least... and lastly, if you get a corked wine, a wine with any deffect or a wine that leaked (my last order contained a bottle of $100 Caymus Cabernet with a leaking cork, which made the wine tasted cooked and flat), they have no procedure put in place for you to replace or return the wine or to get a refund or replacement - none, which is a big no no no for any wine collector... so all in all i give it 3 stars for now
