Located in Kalmoesfontein in the Swartland wine appellation, the South African winery Badenhorst is owned by cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst, who farm their 28 hectares of bush-trained vines to organic and biodynamic standards to produce natural wines in a traditional manner.
The Chenin Blanc grapes, locally called Steen, are sourced from vineyards planted mainly in the 60s. After harvesting and vinification, the wine is left for a short time on the lees in concrete tanks. This step gives the wine more structure and a velvety texture to the palate.
Released for the first time in 2009, Badenhorst Secateurs Chenin Blanc is a bright-colored wine with light straw tones and light greenish reflections. On the nose, it reveals a fresh and fragrant aromatic profile with notes of stone fruit, pear, and citrus peel followed by floral aromas and a light touch of honey. On the palate, it is round and soft, juicy and balanced with a fresh and invigorating acidity. It has a medium body, good fruit concentration, and a lively and mineral finish. It is excellent with salmon, pork tenderloin with apples and endive, pear and walnuts salad.
