Aphros winery was founded by architect Vasco Croft in 2002 on a charming historic 17th century estate in Portugal’s Vinho Verde region. Croft has been fascinated by biodynamic agriculture for many decades and on the estate everything is done in harmony with nature wherever possible. Cover crops are planted in between the vines and any treatments done in the vineyard use natural plant-based extracts.

Croft’s wines are based on the typical local Loureiro and Vinhao varieties using minimal intervention techniques, wild yeasts found naturally in the winery and minimal sulphites. His classic Loureiro is sourced from estate vineyards in the Lima sub-region of Vinho Verde and fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve varietal typicity. The wine is then aged on the lees for at least a couple of months before bottling.

This vibrant, crisp white wine is a great introduction to the Loureiro variety with intense peach, grapefruit and floral notes on the nose. On the palate there is a subtle minerality, orchard fruit flavours and a bright streak of acidity which brings perfect balance. A great wine to serve with sushi, salads or seafood or to enjoy as a vivacious aperitif.
