Known with the nickname of Mr. Alvarinho, Anselmo Mendes comes from a family of farmers in Monção and began producing his wines in 1998. His skill in working with this grape variety has earned him considerable fame, and he is now regarded as one of Portugal's most renowned winemakers.
Made in a limited edition (only 4,800 bottles) from a rigorous selection of the finest Alvarinho grapes from the best vineyards on alluvial soils, Anselmo Mendes A Torre is a wine of exceptional character, a sophisticated expression of this varietal. The grapes are harvested by hand in the early morning to preserve freshness. After fermentation in oak barrels, the finished wine rests on the lees for 9 months.
In the glass, the wine reveals a clear and brilliant color with intense yellow tones and golden highlights. Its aromatic profile is intense, with fresh citrus notes and hints of almond and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is complex and structured, fresh and typically mineral, with lively acidity and a long, balanced finish. It is a surprising wine that shows extraordinary aging potential. It pairs well with cod, poultry, and medium-aged cheeses.
