Vina Cobos was founded by famed Napa Valley winemaker Paul Hobbs along with his Argentinian business partners Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud. The estate is set in Lujan de Cuyo, a high altitude sub-region of Mendoza, with grapes primarily sourced from old vineyards that were purchased by the Marchiori family decades ago.
Their Bramare range showcases complex yet accessible wines like this delicious Malbec which is made in a classic style with plenty of ripe fruit character along with toast and spice from the oak ageing. Once in the winery the grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks and then aged in a mixture of French and American oak barrels for 18 months before bottling.
The result is a rich, deeply-flavoured Malbec which is bursting with dark berries, plums and cherry notes on the nose. The first sip reveals a rich, smooth texture, generous full body and well-rounded tannins. The finish is long with hints of cigar box spice from the lengthy ageing in oak barrels as well as hints of black pepper, cloves and liquorice. The bold flavour profile makes it a great partner for barbecued meats, steak or a hearty beef stew.
