A creation of Australian stalwart David Powell, Torbreck winery has grown to become one of the Barossa region's most prestigious wineries. It began in 1994 when Powell steeped the first Torbreck vintage on his 12-hectare parcel of land in Marananga. Since then, the operators at Torbreck have become caretakers of several vineyards in Barossa and work with independent wine-growers all across the region.
The Struie is named after a hilltop in the Scottish highlands, a place where Powell formerly worked as a lumberjack. It is made from 100% Shiraz/Syrah and is the perfect choice for those who want to discover why the Barossa region is so widely renowned.
Showcasing lifted aromas of black fruits, chocolate and a notable, graphite-like minerality, The Struie is crafted from grapes grown in elevated vineyards across Eden and Barossa Valley. Plum, blackcurrant and blueberry all contribute to its concentrated flavour. As the wine opens up, hints of chocolate, violet and spice appear, marrying harmoniously on the palate. The Struie was aged in French oak for 20 months, and its supple tannins will support years of potential cellaring. Combine it with a herby rack of lamb, a wine-based stew, or a hard cheese.
