Founded in 1881 in Alba, Pio Cesare is one of the most renowned wineries in the Langhe, Piedmont. Here, among the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco, the estate extends across approximately 70 hectares of vineyards, where the area's typical grape varieties are cultivated to produce excellent, traditional-style wines.
The Nebbiolo grapes come from various vineyards on the estate, located around the areas of Serralunga d'Alba, Diano d'Alba, La Morra, Collaretto, and San Rocco Seno d'Elvio. After careful selection and manual harvesting, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel. The finished wine then ages in a mix of barrels of various sizes for 24 months.
The result is a full-bodied and elegant wine with a clear, pale ruby color and garnet highlights. On the nose, the wine reveals a fragrant aromatic profile with notes of berries and violets, followed by hints of sweet spices. On the palate, it is well-structured and fresh, with firm yet well-integrated tannins and a long finish. It is a traditional yet not austere Nebbiolo that pairs beautifully with porcini mushroom risotto or pizza, and with pasta Amatriciana.
