Based in the heart of the Russian River Valley in California, Martin Ray Winery has been owned by Courtney Benham since 1990 and has approximately 5 hectares of vineyards around the winery where several clones of Pinot Noir are grown, but the majority of the grapes are acquired from growers in neighboring regions. The excellent relationships established by the company with the growers allow it to guarantee a high level of constant quality.
The Pinot Noir grapes come from several vineyards located on the vast Sonoma Coast. And thanks to the climatic differences between north and south, the result is a balanced and complex wine, with good fruit concentration. The grapes are pressed and fermented separately by plot and finally, the wines are aged in French oak for 12 months.
The wine shows a ruby color with brilliant tones. On the nose, it reveals a lively and fresh aromatic profile with notes of fresh raspberry, cherry, and cranberries followed by hints of cloves and nutmeg and then violet and hibiscus. On the palate, it is substantial and soft. It has an excellent acidic backbone and firm but smooth tannins. The finish is long, with aromas of spices and fruits. Try it with baked lamb, or with pork filet with a mushroom sauce.
