Gewurztraminer
Marcel Deiss Gewurztraminer 2016
Cellar for up to 5 years. Serve chilled.
Intense notes of grapefruit, lychee, almond blossom and sweet marmalade characterise the nose while the first sip reveals ample freshness, a smooth texture, and vibrant citrus and tropical fruit notes. The grapes used for this wine are grown organically and biodynamically on limestone and granitic soils. Following the harvest they are vinified according to traditional artisanal methods and the young wine is aged in stainless steel tanks on the lees for 12 months.
The lively, vibrant character, smooth texture, and medium body of this wine make it ideal for serving with spicy Asian salads and curries or pan-fried salmon. The backbone of bright acidity and intense fruit flavours also make this an excellent option for extended cellar ageing over the next six or seven years.
Domaine Marcel Deiss is run by Jean Michel Deiss whose family have been making wine in the charming Alsatian village of Bergheim since 1744. Today the domaine is regarded as one of the finest producers in all of Alsace thanks to Jean Michel’s insistence on quality and his maverick methods which include replanting many of his top sites with field blends including many forgotten indigenous Alsatian varieties.
