Mtsvane
Marani Satrapezo Mtsvane 2019
Cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant before serving.
Settled between two mighty mountain ranges in Georgia’s Alazani River Valley, Marani have been producing high-quality wines in the Kakheti region for over a century. They create their wines in the bowels of Telavi Wine Cellar, combining innovation with a deep respect for history.
Georgia is home to a truly ancient wine-making culture - clay pots for fermentation, known as Qvevri, have been used in the region for at least 4 thousand years. While Marani stay in touch with modern-day technology, employing stainless steel tanks, pneumatic presses, and temperature control, they also utilise time-honoured Georgian techniques, evident in this dry wine.
A stunning deep gold colour, this wine is thick with aromas of white and yellow fruit, coconut, and sweet dough. Fruits were gathered by hand and de-stemmed, before being carefully crushed into Qvevries and buried in the Telavi Wine Cellar’s earthen floor for 6 months. It has a round, creamy mouthfeel and a complex harmony of flavours. Ripe pear and yellow apple are balanced out by an oakiness from barrel aging, which follows the initial fermentation stage. There is a lingering finish, with notes of fruit and citrus. This wine won gold at the 2021 International Wine & Spirit Competition, it’s perfect for those who want to taste something delicious and distinctly Georgian. Pair with white fish, tangy apple sauce or potato pancakes.
