This is a fantastically tense and powerful Sancerre, made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. It is a shining yellow in the glass, bursting with flowery notes, scents of citrus, baking spice, and the classic steely Sancerre note of flint and smoke.D’Antan was assembled from several plots of vines, mostly old and growing in a nutritious, flinty soil.
Henri Bourgeois is a tenth-generation family winery, one of the original Sancerre wineries, and located in the hilltop village itself. Today, it is owned and operated by Arnaud, Lionel, and Jean-Christophe Bourgeois, but it takes its name from Henri, who revolutionised the winery and played an important role in characterising the entire region in the 1950s.
D’Antan is perfectly balanced on the palate, a striking Sauvignon Blanc for lovers of French whites. You can find fresh notes of grapefruit zest, white flowers, and light nuts, alongside flinty minerality. It was fermented in oak barrels, before being aged on the lees for 12 more months, lending the brew a full-bodied mouthfeel. It is an unbeatable, vibrant taste of Sancerre - consider pairing it with lobster, fish in white sauce, or a soft cheese.
