Chateau Purcari Maluri de Prut 2021

This sensational red from the little-known Moldovan gem Chateau Purcari is crafted from top quality fruit grown on either side of the Prut river. The blend is composed of the local Feteasca Neagra and Rara Neagra grape varieties which have grown here in Moldova since at least the 14th century.

The grapes are harvested by hand to ensure they arrive at the winery in optimum condition and then vinified according to local winemaking techniques. The wine then spends 6 months maturing in French oak barrels before release. On the nose there are enchanting notes of mulberries, cherries and blackberries while the first sip reveals a full body, smooth texture and long finish with hints of spice and luscious fruit.

One of Europe’s most exciting up-and-coming wineries, Chateau Purcari was founded in 1827 by an imperial decree issued by Tsar Nicholas I. The estate enjoyed a golden age in the 19th century before falling into obscurity when Moldova became part of the Soviet Union. A combination of great quality and incredible value for money are helping put the winery back on the world stage today, with a vast collection of medals won at the Decanter World Wine Awards in 2019 and 2020.
