Cantina Vinicola Luca, a Moldovan winery with a troubled history, produces the Carpe Diem wines. The Luca family has been making wine for four generations, but in 1949, the company was expropriated and the family members deported to Siberia by the Soviet regime. The winery, recovered, restored, and reopened in 2011, now owns over 10 hectares of vineyards.

Carpe Diem Breaking Red is a blend of Feteasca Neagră, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot grapes, hand-picked from select vineyards. After vinification, the finished wine ages in French oak barrels for a year. The result is a rich and elegant wine in which the intense fruity notes of the Feteasca Neagră blend with the spicy notes of wood aging, while the Cabernet adds structure and the Merlot smoothness.

In the glass, the wine reveals a deep ruby color and a broad and complex aromatic profile with notes of currant and cherry, blackberry, and small red berries on a spicy background with hints of chocolate. On the palate, it is rounded, soft, and smooth, with a good body and a pleasant fruit concentration. The finish is long and harmonious. Try it with grilled duck breast, tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms, or pheasant stew.
