Founded in the late 1990s by Bob Betz, Master of Wine and winemaker, and his wife, Cathy, Betz Family Winery is a small but prestigious company known for its excellent Bordeaux and Rhone-style wines. Located in Washington State, the winery was acquired in 2024 by Ackley Brands, a Seattle-based beverage group.

Clos de Betz is a Right Bank Bordeaux-style blend, first produced in 1998 and dominated by Merlot, with additions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and small amounts of Cabernet Franc. Its name represents Bob and Cathy's fulfillment of their dream of opening a winery, and pays homage to their inspirational visit to the Clos de Bèze vineyard in Burgundy. It is an elegant and structured wine, aged in 40% new oak, that fully expresses the richness of the Washington terroir.

In the glass, the wine reveals a dense, deep color with purplish hues and a broad aromatic profile with notes of plum, black cherry, and blueberry, followed by hints of violet, tobacco, and chocolate. On the palate, it's round and smooth, supple and generous with silky tannins and a medium-full body. There's a great concentration of fruit balanced by a lively, refreshing acidity. The finish is long, elegant, and balanced. Pair it with a filet mignon or beef Wellington.
