Hope Family Wines was founded in 1978 and is located in the city of Paso Robles, which is a part of the San Luis Obispo County in California. The county, itself, is home to many wineries and vineyards, with over 25 varieties of grapes growing in the Paso Robles Wine County alone. Hope Family Wines has remained a family-owned and operated business since its inception by husband and wife duo, Chuck and Marlyn Hope. They bought the land in the late 1970s and began by planted grapes and apples, unaware of the valuable terrain they had acquired. Over the years, they would gradually move away from apple orchards and launch full-time into producing quality wines that the Central Coast is renowned for.

Hope Family wines has five labels under their tenure: Candor, Troublemaker, Liberty School, Austin Hope and Treana. Austin Hope, the owners' son, is the head winemaker and president of Hope Family Wines. He helped grow the company from producing 20,000 cases a year to over 300,000 cases a year. As a means of enhancing the drinkability and complexity, they started introducing multi-vintage blends with Candor Wines in 2008. With the success of this venture, they continued with multi-vintage blend with the launch of Troublemaker in 2010. Vine density has increased over the years as a means of reducing the amount of grapes that each vine has to create.
