Far Niente
History
Far Niente, meaning “without a care” in Italian, was originally founded in 1885 by gold rush veteran John Benson who enlisted the help of architect Hamden McIntyre to build the grand old stone winery. During Prohibition the estate was abandoned, and it was only in 1979 that the new owners Gil and Beth Nickel restored it to its former glory. Today the estate boasts 200 acres of prime vineyards across the Napa Valley.

Interesting Facts
Today Far Niente is regarded as a benchmark producer, sourcing their fruit for this bottling from the cool Coombsville region east of the city of Napa. Conditions here are similar to Carneros, with oceanic influence and well-draining gravel and volcanic ash soils. The fruit is harvested by hand and transported to the winery in small bins, with a careful selection of grapes to ensure only the best makes it into this wine.
