Amisfield wines

Established in 1988, Amisfield is based in Central Otago, New Zealand where it specialises in Pinot Noir and aromatic white wines. These wines are made with grapes grown in the shadows of the Pisa Mountain range in the Cromwell Basin. Its 200ha is one of the biggest single vineyard estates in the area.

The winemakers at Amisfield believe in minimal winemaking intervention which ultimately gives them the highest quality wines with the varietal purity that this method brings. Coupled with very strict yield management, the top quality fruit offers concentrated flavours that develop into complex, very interesting wines..

Amisfied also boasts a state of the art winery that allows the principles of minimum intervention to carry through the whole production process. The principle grapes grown are Pinot Noir (accounting for over 60% of the vines) along with Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris making up the balance.

Amisfield believes in sustainable production methods that have minimum effect on the environment. They have built a production facility that includes some very innovative ways of doing things in a sustainable way such as their unique water purification system that filters the winery's waste water which is then used to irrigate the vines. Some of the main areas of innovative sustainable practices include:· Introducing plants into the vineyards that attract the right types of bugs that feed on the vine damaging bugs – this means that the use of pesticides is not needed.· Guinea fowl are well established within the vineyard – they keep grubs and grass under control.· The waterways are kept clear by the introduction of trout and salmon which are thriving.
