Aalto wines

Aalto, founded 1999, is an exciting young project founded in Ribera del Duero by Mariano Garcia, the famous winemaker of Bodegas Vega Sicilia, and Javier Zaccagnini who is a renowned expert in wine business management. The duo came together with a joint vision to produce outstanding wines with a distinctive character from the local Tinta Fina or Tempranillo grape and capture the beauty of the terroir in this striking Spanish region. 

In total the winery has 32 hectares of vineyards which have been carefully replanted from old Tinta Fina clones chosen for their quality and intensity of flavour. Aalto’s state-of-the-art winery is partially buried underground to create barrel rooms which are naturally kept at optimum temperature for ageing their wines.

Amisfield believes in sustainable production methods that have minimum effect on the environment. They have built a production facility that includes some very innovative ways of doing things in a sustainable way such as their unique water purification system that filters the winery's waste water which is then used to irrigate the vines. Some of the main areas of innovative sustainable practices include:· Introducing plants into the vineyards that attract the right types of bugs that feed on the vine damaging bugs – this means that the use of pesticides is not needed.· Guinea fowl are well established within the vineyard – they keep grubs and grass under control.· The waterways are kept clear by the introduction of trout and salmon which are thriving.
