The story of 689 Cellars dates back to 2008. Curtis McBride had spent many years in the wine business marketing and selling wines globally, his friend and winemaker Kent Rasmussen had spent many years crafting exceptional wines out of California. After many trips back and forth to the Far East, Curtis and Kent decided that they could use elements of Chinese numerology to express their ideals for a perfect winery.

689 Cellars is an exciting project based in California with a name inspired by its founders’ travels in Asia where they were struck by the ancient wisdom and traditions which still play an important role in everyday life. The numbers six, eight and nine are regarded as lucky in Chinese culture; six is connected with happiness and assists us in moving through life with luck and success while the symmetrical shape of number eight hints at eternity and unlimited opportunities. Finally, nine is linked to longevity and is seen as the luckiest number of all.
